The costumes are both done with a week to spare!!
I do feel the need to tweak Jessie's hat a little- it needs yarn hair coming down the sides to the braid:
Halle is thrilled with it. Her other Jessie outfit is way too cold (and getting too snug) so she thinks she needs to wear this one all of the time now.
The only non-gushing/loving comment was, "But Mommy, Jessie has a COW on her belt! ...But I really like the 'J' better anyway." I just laughed and told her that any cow I would've attempted would have looked really bad.
Dorothy's dress was much MUCH simpler. I used a vintage girls "Grow-With-Her" jumper pattern. And because Cate refuses to wear a wig (I was going to make one like I wore as Dorothy when I was a little girl, with pantyhose and yarn) all we had to do was find a basket and a dark-colored dog:
I have to say, even though I wanted them to be Super Heroes like Ty, Jessie and Dorothy are two of my favorites. All. Time. Favorites.
Total Costume Costs:
Jessie:
Shirt = $3.00 3.00 button up + ric rac and scraps I already had
Pants and chaps = $1.50 jeans we already had + 1.50 remnant bin cow print (used about 1/4 of it!)
Belt = $0 belt that came with a pair of JD's shorts + scraps
Boots= $6.00 on ebay (including shipping!)
Hat= $3.50 2.00 hat (DC) + $1.50 yarn + ribbon I had
TOTAL = $14.00 That's more than I wanted to spend on a costume. Especially when they have an entire box of dress-ups that would work. BUT, those boots have already been worn a ton. And Halle is one happy little girl in this get up. So it's worth it. :)
Dorothy:
Dress = $2.00 remnant bin fabric is the best. Plus, I only used half of it!
Shoes= $2.00 "Dirt Cheap" is the place to get stuff (sometimes.)
Basket = $.10 thrifted
Dog= $0 Cate got it during her stay in the hospital
TOTAL= $4.10 Now that's more like it. :)
